Plato was an ancient Greek philosopher who lived from 427-347 BCE and was a student of Socrates and the teacher of Aristotle. He founded the Academy in Athens, one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in the Western world. Plato is most famous for his philosophical works, including "The Republic," which is a Socratic dialogue concerning justice, the order and character of the just city-state, and the just man. In this work, Plato also presents his ideas on philosopher-kings, the theory of forms, and the allegory of the cave.
