Later, Santiago and an Englishman discuss the concept of alchemy, the idea that all things are the manifestation of one thing only. One of the thieves mentions that he also had a dream about finding treasure in a ruined church in Spain, where a sycamore tree grows over the sacristy. This location matches the description of the church where Santiago had his original dream. Realizing the treasure's true location, he laughs with joy, understanding that his heart had led him to his Personal Legend all along.

A voice in the wind replied, suggesting he wouldn't have seen the majestic Pyramids had he known his fate. Santiago smiled and resumed digging.

His patience was rewarded when his shovel struck a chest full of Spanish gold coins, precious stones, gold masks with feathers, and jewel-embedded statues - forgotten remnants of a past conquest.
