Tickle became a viral success, and when Monster acquired it for $100 million in 2004, Currier moved on to found Ooga Labs, a digital media studio.

Currier’s journey wasn’t without challenges. His vision was often misunderstood. “Why don’t they get it?” he wondered. Many were stuck in old media paradigms, unable to see the potential of user-generated content. Despite skepticism, Currier persevered, driven by his belief in the internet's unique potential to create personal media experiences. His breakthrough moment came with a fun "What Breed of Dog Are You?" test, which drew a million users in just eight days, showcasing the viral potential of his idea.

Meanwhile, Mena Trott co-founded Six Apart with her husband Ben, driven by a desire to improve the blogging tools available at the time. Starting with the creation of Movable Type in their apartment, they quickly gained traction. Their breakthrough came when they launched TypePad, a hosted blogging service, in 2003. Despite initial reluctance to seek venture capital, they eventually partnered with Joi Ito’s Neoteny, which provided the necessary funding to expand.

Trott’s path was also laden with challenges, from the pressures of maintaining a startup to personal struggles, like almost missing out on marrying her husband due to the overwhelming demands of their work. The couple’s dedication paid off when they acquired LiveJournal in 2005 and launched Vox in 2006, further cementing their place in the blogging world.

• Joe Kraus co-founded Excite, a popular search engine in the late '90s, and later JotSpot, an application wiki company. Dan Bricklin, along with Bob Frankston, founded Software Arts, creating VisiCalc, the first electronic spreadsheet for Apple II, sparking the personal computer revolution. Mitchell Kapor, frustrated with the process of integrating spreadsheets with graphs, developed Lotus 1-2-3, which became a massive success and led Lotus to go public in 1983. 

• Ray Ozzie developed Lotus Symphony and later created Lotus Notes which revolutionized collaboration. His company, Iris Associates, was bought by Lotus in 1994. Evan Williams started Pyra Labs with the goal of creating a web-based project management tool, but a side project called Blogger quickly gained traction and was acquired by Google. Tim Brady, Yahoo's first employee, played a significant role in transforming Yahoo from a collection of links to a global web directory. 

• Mike Lazaridis co-founded Research In Motion (RIM) which created the revolutionary BlackBerry device. Paul Buchheit, the 23rd employee at Google, created Gmail, a revolutionary web-based email system, and developed the first prototype of AdSense. Steve Perlman, an influential figure at Apple, set out to bring the web into living rooms and created WebTV. Paul Graham co-founded Viaweb, one of the first web-based applications, which was eventually bought by Yahoo and renamed Yahoo Store. 

• Joshua Schachter created del.icio.us, a pioneering social bookmarking site, to manage his own collection of bookmarks. Craig Newmark started craigslist as an email list to share local events in San Francisco, which grew into a platform driven by user feedback and trust. Caterina Fake co-founded Ludicorp, which eventually led to the creation of Flickr, a popular photo-sharing platform. Ann Winblad co-founded Open Systems, a business software company, and later co-founded Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, a venture capital firm focused on software. 

• David Heinemeier Hansson joined 37signals and played a pivotal role in its metamorphosis into a product-driven company. Philip Greenspun founded ArsDigita, which grew into a full-fledged consulting business. Joel Spolsky and Michael Pryor founded Fog Creek Software, which created FogBugz and Fog Creek Copilot.
